SALARY : R571 161 - R654 285 per annum

Mkhondo Sub-district (X1 Post) and Lekwa Sub-district (X1 Post) (Gert

Sibande District) Nkomazi Sub-district (X1 Post) (Ehlanzeni District)

REQUIREMENTS : Senior Certificate / Grade 12 plus Basic qualification accredited with the South

African Nursing Council in Terms of Government Notice 425, (i.e. Diploma /

Degree in Nursing) or equivalent qualification that allows registration with the

SANC as a Professional Nurse in Psychiatry. A minimum of seven (7) years of

appropriate/recognizable experience in Mental Health Environment after

registration as a Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing (2026).

A Diploma / Degree in Nursing Administration and Management will be an

added advantage. Good leadership and coordination qualities. Good

interpersonal communication skills. Good organizing and planning skills.

Report writing skills, ability to work under pressure. Valid driver’s licence and

computer literacy.

DUTIES : Coordinate and manage mental health and substance abuse programme at the

sub-district level. Ensure the implementation of the mental health care act (Act

no 17 2002), national mental health policy framework and strategic plan 2023-

2030 and Health sector drug master plan at the sub-district level. Provide

support visits in health facilities that provides 72-hrs assessment. Assist in the

management of state patients on leaves of absence and conditional discharge

and mental health care users in chronical care facilities. Conduct home visit to

support families and help to prevent relapse and treatment defaults. Facilitates

in the establishment of community based mental health services. Ensure

community involvement and participation in forming support group and working

with stakeholders. Advocacy for mental health promotion and prevention of

mental illness and substance abuse: competencies: plan and organise own

work and support personnel to ensure proper nursing care. Do awareness

campaign on mental health and substance abuse? Assist in preparation of

strategic plans and operational plans for the programme, liaise with other

department and ability to work with NGOs.
