POST 25/490 : DEPUTY MANAGER NURSING (PN-A8): MENTAL HEALTH & SUBSTANCE

SALARY : R1 069 215 – R1 219 323 per annum

CENTRE : Provincial Office, Mbombela (Nelspruit)

REQUIREMENTS : Senior Certificate / Grade 12 plus (NQF Level 7) in Health Sciences that allows

registration with health regulatory body of South Africa. A minimum of nine (09)

years appropriate / recognisable experience as health professionals. At least

four (4) years of the period referred to above must be appropriate /

recognisable experience at management level in Mental Health Services

Coordination. Core competencies: Knowledge of mental health services,

communication skills, financial management, planning and organisation,

monitoring and evaluation. Project management. Registration with relevant

health regulatory body of South Africa. Basic computer literacy. Valid driver’s

licence.

DUTIES : Coordinate and support the implementation of Mental Health Act 17 of 2002,

National mental health policy framework and strategic plan 2023-2030 and

Health sector drug master plan in the province. Develop a provincial

comprehensive strategy to combat substance abuse, Coordinate and support

the provision of the forensic mental health services, Coordinate the

establishment of the mental health community-based services in the province.

Develop a strategy to manage child and adolescence in the province. Ensure

effective communication and collaboration with all stakeholders to maintain

existing mental health services. Provide technical support to districts on

matters relating to mental health. Monitor program performance using available

tool and innovative method to strengthen the program. Develop monitoring

framework that will provide for participation of all stakeholders. Develop and

implement the strategies in line with provincial policies, guidelines and ensure

integration into primary health care. Assist in the coordination of services

including training and capacity building for health care workers. Support and

facilitate the licensing of NPOs and NGOs involved in the management of

persons with mental illness and/or severe or profound intellectual disability.

Facilitate stakeholder engagement and inter-sectoral collaboration on mental

health and substance abuse management. Compile and submit reports and

progress update.
