REQUIREMENTS : 4-year qualification in GISc (NQF Level 7) as recognized by SAQA. Three (3)

years post-qualification GISc professional experience. Valid compulsory

registration with the South African Council for Professional and Technical

Surveyors (PLATO) as a GISc Professional. Technical Competencies:

DUTIES : Plan, develop, coordinate, and execute GISc projects and activities aligned

with the department’s strategic objectives. Perform advanced spatial analysis,

spatial modelling, and geo-statistical analysis to identify patterns, trends, and

support decision-making. Design, develop, and maintain geospatial databases,

geodatabases, and digital libraries, including metadata management and

ensuring data quality. Facilitate data collection, capture, integration, and

conversion from various sources and formats. Produce maps, visualizations,

and reports including custom mapping, web-based GIS services, and data

products for stakeholders. Develop and implement GIS standards, policies,

interoperability, and best practices. Provide GIS support and training to end-

users, including developing training manuals and promoting knowledge

sharing. Research and innovate develop new methods/technologies for spatial

problems, evaluate new GIS tools, and conduct cost-benefit analyses. Ensure

compliance with legal, operational, and data governance requirements (e.g.,

spatial data standards, protection of information). Project management

including stakeholder management, documentation of processes, and

supporting audits or system requirements. Collaborate across teams to

integrate GIS into broader systems. Common focus areas from surveys of the

South African GISc community: Data analysis/interpretation, data acquisition,

data management, and visualization/mapping.
