POST 25/591 : OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST GRADE 1 TO 3
SALARY : Grade 1: R413 121 per annum
Grade 2: R482 499 per annum
Grade 3: R564 822 per annum

REQUIREMENTS : Minimum educational qualification: Appropriate qualification that allows for
registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as an
Occupational Therapist. Registration with a professional council: Registration
with the HPCSA as an Occupational Therapist. Experience: Grade 1: None
after registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA)
as an Occupational Therapist. One-year relevant experience after registration
with the HPCSA as an Occupational Therapist in respect of foreign-qualified
employees, of whom it is not required to perform Community Service, as
required in South Africa. Grade 2: A minimum of 10 years relevant experience
after registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA)
as an Occupational Therapist. A minimum of 11 years relevant experience after
registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa as an
Occupational Therapist in respect of foreign qualified employees, of whom it is
not required to perform community service, as required in South Africa. Grade
3: A Minimum of 20 years relevant experience after registration with the Health
Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as an Occupational Therapist. A
minimum of 21 years relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA as
an Occupational Therapist in respect of foreign qualified employees, of whom
it is not required to perform community service, as required in South Africa.
Inherent requirement of the job: Good physical ability to lift and transfer
disabled patients for all levels of wheelchair seating. Valid (Code B/EB) driver’s
licence. Willingness to cover in- and out-patient OT physical services and work
under extreme pressure. Competencies (knowledge/skills): Knowledge of
applicable health legislation, relevant Acts and Public Service Policies and
Procedures, including WCDoHW Ecosystem Framework. Relevant skills in
assessing, developing and implementing OT interventions in an acute,
specialist/tertiary hospital setting; and prioritising patient treatment/discharge
plans. Ability in assessing, prescribing and issuing Mobility Assistive and
Functional Devices, intermediate and advanced seating training would be
advantageous. Good interpersonal, communication (written and verbal),
conflict resolution, problem solving, leadership and organizational skills. Good
computer literacy skills (MS Office: Excel, Word, Power point and Outlook).
Ability to function within a multi-disciplinary team setting, to be flexible and to
work independently.
DUTIES : Assess and treat patients with varying and multiple medical conditions using
appropriate OT techniques and approaches, including family/carer training and
education. Be responsible for personal, departmental and administration
related to patient care. Management of assets and consumables in allocated
work area/s. Participate in the clinical supervision of undergraduate OT
students.
