About this role

Job Description

To provide expertise, advice and support by executing data modelling standards, principles, frameworks and tools within area of accountability; under guidance and supervision designing and developing of logical and physical data models and databases to meet the needs of the organisation's information systems and business requirements; and coordinate and priorities data modelling within business area.
  • Design and implement data modelling solutions which include, but are not limited to, the use of relational, dimensional and NoSQL databases

  • Develop and maintain conceptual, logical and physical data models as required by the SARB business units and their various projects and business-as-usual operations

  • Identify and adopt an enterprise data model as a standard for data model designs to leverage best practice and fast-track modelling efforts.

  • Monitor, measure and report the data modelling and data development quality levels to ensure the correct entities and objects are captured as per business requirements.

  • Amend data model designs as well as update data entities and objects emanating from business process changes.

  • Perform the reverse engineering of physical data models from existing databases and SQL scripts.

  • Ensure that the coverage of entities necessary to respond to the business requirement is accounted for in the data models.

  • Develop and manage stakeholder relations effectively to promote data modelling awareness across the organisation and support reliable decision-making.

  • Deliver test scripts for the data models and see the data models through implementation.

  • Deliver all the necessary supporting documents relating to data modelling.

  • Develop reports pertaining to data modelling and associated activities.

  • Drive the automation of data modelling management processes and functions.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A relevant Bachelor qualification

  • Minimum 4 - 5 years' experience in a data environment with hands-on relational, dimensional and analytic experience

  • Experience with data warehouse, data lake and enterprise big data platforms in multi-data-center contexts required.

  • Proven experience in modeling end-to-end payment lifecycles, including clearing, settlement and reconciliation processes (e.g. Swift, ISO20022).

  • Knowledge of logical data modelling, and use of industry data models (e.g. IBM, Teradata, etc.).

  • Knowledge of dimensional data modelling using Kimball methodology.

  • Understanding of the Inmon methodology.

  • Developing data models in a banking environment with specific focus on payment systems.

  • Understanding and experience in implementing data management domains and technologies (e.g. data modelling, metadata management, data quality and profiling, information architecture, etc.).
