Discovery Health Care Services (DHCS) is building a Locum General Practitioner Talent Pool to support our expanding network of onsite healthcare clinics across South Africa. We invite suitably qualified and experienced General Practitioners to register their interest for future locum opportunities within our corporate and primary healthcare environments

 

About the Opportunity 

As a Locum General Practitioner, you will provide comprehensive primary healthcare services within Discovery's onsite clinic network. These assignments may vary in duration and location, offering flexibility while contributing to the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred healthcare. 

Successful candidates will be considered for locum placements as operational requirements arise and will become part of a trusted network of healthcare professionals supporting Discovery's commitment to clinical excellence

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Care

  • Conduct patient consultations, assessments, examinations, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up care.
  • Prescribe and manage medication in accordance with clinical protocols and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate referrals to specialists, allied healthcare professionals, pathology, radiology and emergency services when required.
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation and patient records.
  • Deliver preventative healthcare, health promotion and wellness interventions.  Perform minor clinical procedures within the scope of primary healthcare practice

Chronic Disease Management 

  • Diagnose, monitor and manage chronic conditions, including hypertension, diabetes, asthma, HIV and other prevalent diseases.
  • Support patients with long-term treatment plans and disease management programmes.
  • Review diagnostic and pathology results and adjust treatment plans where appropriate

 

Preventative Health Services

  • Conduct health risk assessments and preventative health screenings.
  • Interpret point-of-care diagnostic tests.
  • Promote health awareness, wellness initiatives and lifestyle management programmes.
  • Identify and manage communicable diseases in line with clinical guideline

 

Clinical Collaboration and Governance

  • Work collaboratively with nursing staff and multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
  • Provide clinical support and guidance where required.
  • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives, clinical governance and patient safety programmes.
  • Ensure compliance with Discovery policies, clinical standards and applicable healthcare legislation

 

Emergency Care and Referrals

  • Assess and stabilise medical emergencies within the clinic environment.
  • Facilitate escalation and transfer to higher levels of care when necessary

 

 Minimum requirements

 Qualifications and registration

  • MBChB qualification.
  • Current HPCSA registration in good standing.
  • BHF registration (where applicable)
  • Valid dispensing licence and permit (where applicable).
  • Professional indemnity insurance

 

Qualifications and registration

  • Minimum 3 years' experience as a practicing General Practitioner.
  • Experience in primary healthcare, or corporate healthcare settings will be advantageous.
  • Demonstrated commitment to delivering exceptional patient care and service excellence
