POST 26/203 : CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST GRADE 1 TO 3
SALARY : Grade 1: R907 617 per annum
Grade 2: R1 055 292 per annum
Grade 3: R1 221 843 per annum

REQUIREMENTS : Minimum educational qualification: Appropriate qualification that allows
registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a
Psychologist in Clinical Psychology. Registration with a professional council:
Registration with the HPCSA as a Clinical Psychologist. Experience: Grade 1:
None after registration as with the HPCSA as a Psychologist in respect of RSA
qualified employees. 1 Year relevant experience after registration with the
HPCSA as a Psychologist in respect of foreign qualified employees, of whom
it is not required to perform Community Service, as required in South Africa.
Grade 2: A minimum of 8 years relevant experience after registration with the
HPCSA as Psychologist in respect of RSA qualified employees. Minimum of 9
years relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA as Psychologist in
respect of foreign qualified employees, of whom it is not required to perform
Community Service, as required in South Africa. Grade 3: A minimum of 16
years relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA as Psychologist in
respect of RSA qualified employees. A minimum of 17 years relevant
experience after registration with the HPCSA as Psychologist in respect of
foreign qualified employees, of whom it is not required to perform Community
Service, as required in South Africa Inherent requirement of the job: Valid
Driver’s License. Willingness to travel independently between wards and
service areas on hospital premises in the performance of your duties.
Willingness to arrange your own transport to attend occasional off-site
facilities/meetings in the performance of your duties. Competencies
(knowledge/skills): Sound knowledge of clinical psychology assessment,
diagnosis, psychotherapeutic interventions and psychometric assessment.
Ability to function effectively within a multidisciplinary mental health team in a
specialist psychiatric setting. Knowledge of relevant legislation including the
Mental Health Care Act, Criminal Procedure Act, Child Care and Protection
legislation, HPCSA ethical guidelines and applicable Department of Health
policies. Ability to provide psychological consultation, supervision, teaching
and training to students, interns and other healthcare professionals. -Good
organisational, administrative, report writing, problem-solving and time
management skills. Computer literacy and the ability to maintain accurate
clinical and statistical records. Excellent verbal and written communication.
Ability to work independently, demonstrate professional leadership, and adapt
to different clinical service environments.
DUTIES : Render comprehensive clinical psychology services including psychological
assessment, diagnosis, psychometric evaluation, risk assessment,
formulation, treatment planning and report writing. Provide evidence-based
individual, group and family psychotherapy and contribute to psychosocial
rehabilitation and mental health promotion programmes. Participate in
multidisciplinary clinical activities including ward rounds, case discussions, and
consultation and liaison services. Maintain clinical governance standards
through appropriate administration, record keeping, referral management,
statistics reporting and participation in quality improvement activities. -
Contribute to the training, supervision and evaluation of intern psychologists
and other students in accordance with HPCSA requirements. Participate in
academic, teaching, research, continuing professional development and
service development activities. Represent Psychology on relevant hospital and
departmental committees and contribute to the strategic development of
psychological services. Provide outreach, consultation and support services to
district hospitals, community facilities and other stakeholders as required.
