About this role

Key Responsibility Areas: 

  • Develop and implement annual operational plan for client Directorate. 
  • Compile communication plans for Directorate projects and programmes. 
  • Writing articles, press releases, features and opinion pieces for internal and external audiences.
  •  Prepare newspaper and electronic advertisements for the Municipality through compiling advertisements which are educational, informative and persuade the target audience to act in a specific way.

  •  Determine desired photographs and picture composition through selecting and assemble equipment required. 
  • Advising line Divisions on policies and communicating important information protecting and promote the corporate image of the Municipality. 
  • Responsible for development of communication materials (brochures, flyers, supplements advertorials) and branding of Municipal events. 
  • Responsible for the eThekwini Municipality social media (eThekwini Municipality television, Facebook, twitter and LinkedIn) 
  • Plan and co-ordinate events and launches for various client Directorate. 
  • Conduct research to determine the relevant communication messages and communication media to be utilised. 
  • Undertake related assignments.

  • Writing articles, press releases, features and opinion pieces for internal and external audiences. 
  • Prepare newspaper and electronic advertisements for the Municipality through compiling advertisements which are educational, informative and persuade the target audience to act in a specific way. 
  • Demonstrate the high level of understanding the operation of electronic media (radio and television) in order to prepare for radio interviews and advertising. 
  • Leading the internal and external communication. 
  • Determine desired photographs and picture composition through selecting and assemble equipment required. 
  • Advising line departments on policies and communicating important information protecting and promote the corporate image of the Municipality. 
  • Responsible for development of communication materials (brochures, flyers, supplements advertorials) and branding of Municipal events. 
  • Plan and co-ordinate events and launches for various client Directorate. 
  • Research, collate information which will assist in writing speeches and messages that are able to influence, educate and persuade. 
  • Undertake related assignments. 
  • Provide comprehensive communication support to Council Committees and Political Office Bearers.

Requirements

Essential Requirements:  Diploma (NQF Level 6) in Communications or Public   Relations or Journalism or any other related and equivalent qualification.  Valid motor vehicle driving license  3 Years relevant experience.  Computer Literacy  Preferred Requirements:   Degree (NQF Level 7) in Communications or Public Relations or Journalism or any other related and equivalent qualification.  4 Years relevant experience.   SENIOR COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER   Essential Requirements:  Diploma (NQF Level 6) in Communications or Public Relations or Journalism or any other related and equivalent qualification.
