About this role

Job DescriptionServe as the senior strategic advisor to the Head of Investment Office, providing enterprise-wide leadership in investment strategy, asset and liability management, portfolio optimisation, balance sheet positioning and macroeconomic analysis. Shape and influence strategic investment decisions across FirstRand by integrating market intelligence, macroeconomic insights, risk considerations and balance sheet objectives into actionable recommendations that support sustainable value creation.

Provide expert thought leadership across Treasury, Finance, Risk and Executive Governance structures, contributing to the Group's investment posture, market positioning and long-term balance sheet strategy while influencing enterprise-wide decisions and outcomes in support of the Investment Office
  • Lead the development of strategic investment insights and recommendations with the relevant teams within the Investment Office that inform FirstRand's balance sheet positioning, asset allocation decisions and risk-taking activities.
  • Partner with the Head of Investment Office to shape the Group's investment philosophy, strategic market views and long-term investment priorities.
  • Evaluate local and global macroeconomic events, financial market developments and emerging trends to inform investment strategy and Treasury decision-making.
  • Provide intellectual leadership on investment opportunities, threats and strategic trade-offs that may impact shareholder value, earnings volatility and balance sheet resilience.
  • Drive the continuous enhancement of investment frameworks, strategic asset allocation methodologies and portfolio construction approaches used within Group Treasury.
  • Contribute to the formulation of strategic responses to changing economic, regulatory and financial market conditions.
  • Provide enterprise-level expertise and challenge on the management of interest rate, liquidity, funding and foreign exchange risks across the Group balance sheet.
  • Lead strategic assessments of balance sheet exposures and develop recommendations that optimise risk-adjusted returns while supporting regulatory and capital objectives.
  • Evaluate alternative balance sheet strategies and assess their impact on earnings, capital, liquidity, economic value and risk appetite metrics.
  • Influence decisions relating to duration positioning, repricing strategies, funding structures and liquidity deployment.
  • Provide specialist guidance on complex Treasury transactions, portfolio structuring and risk mitigation initiatives.
  • Support the alignment of funding, liquidity and investment strategies to optimise Group balance sheet performance.
