Job Description

The Senior Finance Business Partner provides financial insight, analysis, and decision support to business stakeholders by translating complex financial information into actionable commercial insights. The role enables performance, value creation, and strategic outcomes by partnering with leaders to shape decisions, challenge assumptions, improve forecasting accuracy, and drive efficient resource allocation.

The incumbent supports performance management and strategic planning through robust reporting, scenario modelling, and strong governance—ensuring decisions align with objectives, risk appetite, and control environment.

Business Area: GTT Finance & Value Management.

Strategic Business Partnering & Decision Support

  • Partner with senior stakeholders to support strategy execution, operational planning, and performance delivery.
  • Provide commercial challenge and insight by interpreting financial and non-financial drivers (e.g., volume, productivity, service metrics, headcount, cost-to-serve).
  • Support prioritisation and trade-off decisions through scenario analysis, sensitivities, and value-based recommendations.
  • Translate financial results into clear narratives for leadership, enabling timely actions and performance improvement.

Business Case Development (Feasibility & Investment Decisions)

  • Develop straightforward business cases and/or lead feasibility assessments for proposed and current projects.
  • Evaluate initiatives through:
    • Cost/benefit analysis, ROI/NPV/IRR where applicable
    • Affordability and funding impact
    • Resource implications (Opex/Capex, run vs. change)
    • Risks, dependencies, and assumptions
  • Support continuous review of active business cases and benefits tracking—ensuring delivery remains aligned to agreed outcomes

Data Collection & Analysis (Insights, Trends, and Impact Assessment)

  • Use data from a wide range of sources to identify themes, diagnose performance variances, and quantify business impact.
  • Produce insight-led analysis on drivers such as cost efficiency, margin, productivity, revenue, customer metrics, and workforce costs.
  • Create and maintain management reporting packs, dashboards, and performance commentary suited to executive-level decision-making.
  • Improve data quality and reporting consistency by standardising definitions, controls, and reporting logic.

Budgeting, Forecasting & Performance Management

  • Lead and/or support annual budgeting and rolling forecasting processes for the relevant business area.
  • Track and explain variances vs. budget/forecast/prior year; recommend corrective actions where needed.
  • Maintain forecasting models aligned to business drivers and ensure stakeholders understand inputs, assumptions, and sensitivities.
  • Partner with functional owners to ensure financial plans reflect operational reality and strategic intent.

Financial Governance, Controls & Risk

  • Ensure compliance with Old Mutual finance policies, governance frameworks, and internal controls.
  • Support audit readiness, process assurance, and adherence to relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Identify financial risks and propose mitigation actions—balancing commercial outcomes with control and sustainability.

Stakeholder Engagement & Communication

  • Build strong cross-functional relationships with Finance teams, operational leaders, and delivery owners.
  • Present insights with clarity and confidence to senior stakeholders, translating detail into decision-ready messages.
  • Influence outcomes through evidence-based recommendations, effective storytelling, and structured problem-solving.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Matric
  • Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field
  • 5+ years’ experience in finance partnering / management accounting
  • Demonstrated experience building business cases and evaluating investments
  • Strong variance analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and performance management capability
  • Understanding of financial controls, governance, and commercial contracting impacts
  • Proven ability to translate data into insights and influence decisions
  • Advanced Excel skills; exposure to BI tools, and ERP/ finance systems is advantageous
  • Business Intelligence experience is advantageous
  • AI tool experience is advantageous
