Job Purpose

 

We are seeking a highly analytical Data Analyst to join our team. The primary purpose of this role is to transform complex data into meaningful insights that support strategic decision-making and deliver measurable business value.

 

The successful candidate will work closely with business stakeholders, product owners, and the BI Team to understand business challenges, define requirements, analyse data, and deliver actionable insights. They will translate business requirements into analytical specifications and business rules that enable the development of trusted data and analytical solutions. 

 

You should demonstrate a high competency in problem solving capabilities. We are looking for an individual with experience in using a variety of data tools, descriptive and advanced analytics techniques as well as data visualization to turn data into actionable insights with demonstrable business impact.


If you are passionate about turning data into insights and solving complex business problems, this role is for you. Experience in the Life and Savings industry will be advantageous. This role is based at the Glacier Head Office in Cape Town.

 

Key Outcomes

 

The following outcomes will be expected to be achieved by the Data Analyst:

 

Data Preparation

  • Acquire data from various data sources, combine and transform data into interpretable datasets, reports or dashboards
  • Assess the effectiveness and accuracy of new data sources and data gathering techniques
  • Extend the company’s data with third party sources of information when required
  • Process, cleanse and verify the integrity of data used for analysis
  • Perform data profiling of data contained in source systems
  • Provide detailed analysis of all data implemented into the database
  • Provide the data mapping and associated transformation rules for each data item
  • Ensure that the business requirements and subsequent development activities are supported by accurate information

 

Analysis and Visualisation

  • Interpret data, analyse results using analytical techniques and provide analytical models, reports and/or dashboards
  • Mine and analyse data to drive optimisation and improvement of product development, marketing techniques and business strategies 
  • Select features, building and optimising classifiers using machine learning techniques 
  • Use predictive modelling to increase and optimise customer experiences, generation & targeting and other business outcomes 
  • Identify, analyse, and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets
  • Use data to answer key questions about the business
  • Support and maintain the project data models at multiple levels of detail and functionality (conceptual, logical, normalised, relational, dimensional, application level, subject-level, integrated, etc.)
  • Eliciting technical/system rules to assist Data Modelers to draw up detailed data models and technical mapping

 

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Work directly with management and other business users to gather requirements, provide status updates, and build relationships
    Present information using data visualisation techniques.
  • Lead facilitation requirements gathering workshops with the business, and assist in expanding, defining and understanding requirements.
  • Lead and contribute to collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to analyse information needs, functional requirements and business processes.

Qualifications and Experience

 

  • Relevant tertiary Qualification
  • 5+ years of experience performing data analysis with proven functional experience in analytics, data visualisation and/or reporting.
  • Experience with Business Intelligence and reporting tools such as Power BI and SAP Web Intelligence.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to query, analyse, interpret, and present data-driven insights to stakeholders.
  • Experience working with diverse data sources and platforms, including Snowflake, SAP HANA, Microsoft SQL Server, XML, JSON, and file-based data sources.
  • Strong SQL proficiency and experience working with large and complex datasets.
  • Ability to translate business requirements into clear analytical and technical specifications.
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis, data mining, and machine learning techniques and their practical application.
  • Understanding of data governance, data quality, data profiling, and reference data management practices.
  • Experience working in Agile delivery environments.
  • Investments, Life and Savings industry experience will be advantageous.

Degree or Diploma with 4 to 6 years related experience.
