About this role

The Pebbles Project is a NPO that supports children and families on farms in Stellenbosch, the surrounding areas as well as Citrusdal.  The Pebbles Project seeks to employ an Early Childhood Development (ECD) Educator and Teacher to be based in Citrusdal and to oversee a variety of ECD Centres on behalf of Pebbles.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Programme Development and Training
  • On-Site Programme Implementation and Support
  • ECEP Staff Mentorship and Development
  • Centre Management of ECD centres
Duties include, but not limited to: 
● Assist the ECEP ECD Programme Manager with the development of the ECEP ECD initiative.
● Provide input for the development of the ECEP ECD initiative.
● Provide support to the ECEP ECD facilitators by on-site support and training.
● Present any other initiatives as requested by the ECEP Programme Manager.
● Assist with the identification of learners with learning difficulties and refer individual cases to the SEN Programme Initiative Manager.
● Present training to the ECEP ECD facilitators on the Pebbles Project ECEP initiative and activities.
● Ensure, under the direction of the ECEP Programme Manager, that the ECEP ECD Programme initiatives are implemented correctly.
● Present training to the ECEP facilitators on effective classroom management.
● Present training to the ECEP ECD facilitators on the presentation of lessons and activities.
● To take overall responsibility in advising the ECEP ECD facilitators with the layout of the ECD centre.
● Purchase and distribute all the educational resources as required by the individual centres, as directed by the ECEP ECD Programme Manager.
● Organise the collection of all ECEP ECD registers on a monthly basis and to inform the ECEP ECD Programme Manager of any discrepancies in this regard.
● Facilitate quarterly parent meetings and one on one meetings when required.
● Ensure the general upkeep of communication with parents and ensure they are informed about their child’s involvement in any of the Pebbles Project programmes. Facilitate the dissemination of all programme documents.
● Assist the Area Manager with the Health and Safety for a cluster of centres.
● Assist the ECEP Programme Manager with any Department of Social Developments processes and procedures.
● Support the Pebbles Project social workers if/when relevant. Conducting home visits with the Social Worker when necessary.
● Oversee and support the performance and professional development of external ECEP staff.
● Conduct quarterly staff evaluations and performance development meetings.
● Provide ongoing coaching, guidance, and performance support.
● Assist with and conduct necessary Human Resources processes for Pebbles' external ECEP staff, as well as for staff members on the farms' behalf.
● Support the induction of new ECEP staff in collaboration with HR.
● Attend ECEP training sessions to strengthen communication between facilitators and the office.
● Take overall responsibility for the general upkeep of the building and outdoor areas of all the centres assigned to the ECEP Support Teacher.
● Take overall responsibility for all the ECEP communication with the relevant farms and centres.
● Manage, maintain and take responsibility of the building and landscaping of outdoor play areas.
● Manage the centre waiting lists and intake procedures for new children.
● Assist the ECEP Programme Manager with all Department of Social Development (DSD) and WCED processes and procedures.
● Support Pebbles Project social workers as needed, including conducting home visits with the Social worker when necessary.
● Assist with the planning of the ECEP staff and beneficiary year end functions.
● Plan and execute the year-end prize giving with the ECEP ECD support teacher at the relevant centres.
● Assist the programme managers by putting together the monthly farm schedules and identify any amendments if required.
● Any additional duties in-line with the role.

 REQUIREMENTS:
● Relevant Tertiary Qualification in Education
● 2-5 years Teaching Experience
● SACE Registered
● Own Vehicle and driving license (Willingness to obtain a Code 10 driving license and ability to drive a passenger vehicle)
● Fluent in written and spoken Afrikaans and English.
● Computer Literate.
● Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
● Clear Criminal Background
● Current Level 1 First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain within [e.g., 3 months] of employment).
● Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a dynamic team.
● Flexibility to work occasional extended hours, including evenings and weekends, as required.


This is a Full-Day role from Monday - Friday, 08:00 – 17:00
